The Carroll L soon after she came to Even Keel in early 2001
The spacious SALON features a mahogany helm and chart table/desk [below left] and a large corner settee that converts into sleeping area [below right]. Other mahogany luxuries include an entertainment center w/ built-in freezer, a drop-leaf dining table, and 2 book/magazine racks under the washrail. 6 sliding and 4 fixed windows give plenty of light and air, and 3 large hatches allow access to the Yanmar 6CX 500-hp engine.
The COCKPIT has its own teak helm [below right], as well as a large teak-trim cabinet and two 20x30 access hatches. The teak flybridge ladder folds up when not in use. A teak swim platform extends 24" from the stern of the boat.
The GALLEY area [below] sports a Lowell-design dish cupboard, maple butcher-block counters trimmed with mahogany, a wine glass rack, 4 large drawers, and 3 smaller storage areas. Appliances include a Polar stainless steel sink, Coolmatic fridge, and Force 10 4-burner gas range w/ glass-front oven. The cooking area is lined with stainless steel, with a microwave compartment overhead.
Generous HEAD has large shower & Jabsco electric toilet [below right], mahogany medicine cabinet, and stainless steel wash basin set in a mahogany counter [below left] w/ built-in laundry bin. Linen storage cupboards below the counter have shelves of aromatic cedar. Whale plumbing and fixtures are used throughout the boat.
The comfortable STATEROOM offers an oversized platform berth [below left] flanked by large hanging lockers and seats that lift to reveal storage space [below right]. Six spacious drawers line the front of the berth platform. The lower cabin stays airy with 6 Lewmar portlights and 4 skylights of varying sizes.
Carroll Lowell drew this profile of the Connie O'Connor for Alan Dugas in November 1992. The Carroll L has a slightly different flybridge, but otherwise looks the same today as she appeared in this drawing.
